Marcus Dupree
Marcus Dupree was a Black American political science student from Atlanta, Georgia, who later became a civil rights attorney. During the 2025–2026 academic year, he was a Howard University sophomore, a resident assistant in Cook Hall, and Logan Weston’s suitemate in suite 312.
Early Life and Family
Marcus grew up in Atlanta. His father, Terrence Dupree, worked in local politics, and his mother, Tamara Dupree, was an educator. Civic engagement and debate were part of family life. Marcus was the middle of three brothers, between Cameron and Josiah. Cameron was born around 2003 or 2004, and Josiah around 2008 or 2009.
Education and Career
Marcus entered Howard University in fall 2024 and studied political science. As a sophomore, he served as a resident assistant in Cook Hall and lived in a two-bedroom suite with Logan.

Marcus belonged to Logan’s Howard friend group with Jaya Mitchell, Deon Wright, Aaron Lancaster, and Liana Simmons.
After completing his undergraduate studies at Howard, Marcus attended law school and became a civil rights attorney.
Personality and Communication
Marcus was social, funny, observant, and comfortable filling a room. He was outspoken about Black community and civil rights, challenging people without treating every disagreement as a fight. His humor was warm and inclusive, and he adjusted quickly when another person needed quiet or space. He sent friends memes at odd hours, often about politics. He was organized in some areas and cheerfully disorderly in others: he color-coded his notes but often lived out of a laundry basket.
Marcus spoke with an Atlanta inflection and an animated range of pace and pitch. He called Logan “Doc,” “Dr. Weston,” or “Mini M.D.” and sometimes teased him for being “a little too Type A to be human.” His teasing made care feel ordinary rather than clinical.
Personal Style and Daily Life
Marcus stood between five feet ten and six feet tall and had an athletic build, a broad nose, full lips, and a wide, readily offered smile. He wore his locs pulled back from his face, often half-up. At nineteen, he used body spray generously. His side of the Cook Hall suite included a Morehouse pennant from his father and a laundry basket that undercut the otherwise orderly room.
He maintained shared lists with Logan before move-in and complained about the effect of Washington weather on his allergies. He drew Logan out to restaurants near Howard rather than letting him spend all his time studying. Marcus dated casually during college and was not looking for a settled relationship then.
Family and Core Relationships
Logan Weston

Marcus and Logan began communicating before move-in and became suitemates in August 2025. Marcus gave Logan and his family space to settle in without turning the gesture into a performance.
Marcus brought Logan Gatorade when his blood sugar dropped and let him rest undisturbed after difficult days. During Logan’s finals-week breakdown, Marcus stayed on the bathroom floor with him through migraine-related vomiting. Their friendship remained part of Logan’s life through his accident, medical leave, return to Howard, and later career.
On the night of Logan’s accident, Marcus posted about his suitemate on Instagram and Facebook and ended the post with #LightForLogan, creating the hashtag that gave the public response its name. Marcus and the rest of Logan’s Howard circle organized a GoFundMe and meal train for Julia and Nathan. Two days later, Marcus gave Cassidy Miller his blessing to build the family’s official #LightForLogan page around the hashtag and coordinate the student-led response with verified family updates.
A Howard student designed a #LightForLogan shirt, and Marcus arranged its production and sale to raise money. Supporters wore the shirts at the public Baltimore vigil on December 18, 2025.
Marcus later sent Julia and Nathan a joint message about the campaign shirt sales and further production, promising to send the shirt money as soon as possible. He personally bought a meal-delivery gift card for them to share and included it with the message.
The Howard Crew
Marcus’s louder social energy contrasted with Deon’s stillness and Aaron’s procedural style. Jaya and Liana brought their own practical forms of support, and the group treated Logan as a peer despite his younger age.
